Look! Look! It's Dr. Seuss!

A new book titled “The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories" by Dr. Seuss was published and available to buy in stores in September. Within this new book, seven stories were published that have only appeared in a magazine in the 1950’s. Dr. Seuss’ books were always my favorite when I was younger. Because of this, I visited the Dr. Seuss National Memorial website to learn more about him.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was born in 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. His mother would tell him and his siblings rhymes to help them fall asleep at night. Dr. Seuss gave credit to his mother for both his ability and desire to create the rhymes for which he is known for.

Ted attended Dartmouth College where he was the editor-in-chief of a humor magazine. His position was taken away from after his friends and him were caught throwing a party with which alcohol was present. This was against the schools rules and the prohibition laws at that time. After losing his position with the magazine, he still contributed and signed his name “Seuss.” Ted’s middle name and his mother’s maiden name was “Seuss”. This is where his newly created name came from.

Throughout Ted’s career, he had written and illustrated 44 children’s books. Some of his most well known books are Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, Fox in Socks, and Cat in the Hat. His books are in many children’s homes all around the world, over 200 million copies have been published in more that 15 languages.

The Dr. Seuss books have provided a source for eleven children’s TV shows, a Broadway musical and a movie. Ted has been honored by receiving two Academy awards, two Emmy awards, a Peabody award and the Pulitzer Prize. Theodor Seuss Geisel passed away on September 24, 1991.

  1. I'm so excited that there is a new Dr. Seuss book! His literature was a big part of my childhood. Back in elementary school, we even had a day called Dr.Seuss day, where we read his books and celebrated his lifelong works. His silly stories and funny characters are memorable because no one else can create such stories like he did. I can recite a few books today from memory because of how fun and catchy they are. Laughter and enjoyment to people of all ages has come out of his books. Hats off to Dr.Seuss for the years and more to come of silly stories that make you smile!

  2. I am a big fan of Dr. Seuss and have been ever since I was a little kid. I find this informative blog post about Dr. Seuss’ life to be very interesting and enjoyable because it is fascinating to learn about how he acquired and developed his great talent of rhyming to tell a children’s story. His child mentality and imagination is phenomenally put together in each and ever one of his books. He has the ability to put together great stories that most kids will remember all through their lives and pass down to their own children. Not only is Dr. Seuss great at turning a story into a rhyming adventure, but his inspirational quotes are also very enlightening. He created some of my favorite quotes about love and life. Dr. Seuss is a very talented person and is in my opinion one of the best writers of all time.
